The ruling party of Japan called for exercises with the United States off the Senkaku Islands
Senkaku offered the Japanese government an initiative group of members of the country's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to conduct military exercises together with the United States in the area of the islands. This was reported on September 24 by the Nikkei newspaper. Exercises near the Senkaku Islands (Diaoyuidao), which are the subject of a territorial dispute with China, according to the group, should strengthen Japan's presence in the region. At the same time, the Government was invited to increase information exchange on the actions of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) with the authorities of Taiwan. Recall that Beijing has claims to the Senkaku Islands, which Japan actually controls. Tokyo's concern about these territories has grown, as Chinese ships have been near the islands for 111 consecutive days. According to the news agency, on August 29, US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Japanese Secretary of Defense Taro Kono met on the island of Guam, at the Andersen Air Force Base, where they agreed that they would jointly restrain China's assertiveness in the South China and East China Seas.
