In Guangzhou launched an unmanned taxi service
The Chinese company WeRide launched a taxi service with self-driving cars in one of the districts of Guangzhou. This was reported by the portal cnTechPost. The company has WeRide been developing unmanned driving technologies since 2017. In 2019, the company began testing the RoboTaxi unmanned taxi service, developed on the basis of Nissan electric vehicles. On June 23, WeRide operations manager Lin Wenschen said that the service was successfully tested and officially put into operation. Unmanned vehicles are used for trips in the Huangpu area of Guangzhou, taxi calls are carried out using a special mobile application. Wenshen noted that although cars are driven independently, to ensure safety in cars, company employees will be present who are ready to take control in case of an emergency. Currently, the fleet of unmanned taxis consists of 20 cars, in the future the company will increase the fleet depending on demand. As previously reported by the news agency, in June, Didi spokesman Meng Xing said that by 2030 there will be more than one million unmanned vehicles in the taxi service of this Chinese company.
