President of Georgia & mdash; Ukraine: I would like to be mistaken
Georgian President Salome Nurabishvili made a special statement in connection with the proposal of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to ex-President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili to take up the post of Deputy Prime Minister. The press service of the President of Georgia issued her statement on October 28 in the evening. In it, Salome Nurabishvili expresses extreme disappointment at the intention of the strategic partner of Georgia to appoint to a high political position a person convicted of criminal offences by all three courts of Georgia, as well as found guilty by the ECHR. Because of the situation created today, everyone who respects the history of our countries and the path travelled together and who cares about the future of our strategic friendship is going through. Among them is me, the President of Georgia, and with me the majority of the public. Such a development can only be wanted by those who want to crack the inviolable friendship between Georgia and Ukraine, explained the President of Georgia. She recalled the common goals and aspirations of both countries to join the EU and NATO, plans to strengthen transport capacity on the Black Sea, the problems of territorial integrity and occupation that unite Georgia and Ukraine. It is impossible to imagine what will benefit from diverging paths and weakening unity either Georgia or Ukraine. Personally, I don 't want to think that such an option is permissible. I do not imagine how one person can be so important that Ukraine should put on scales our long inter-state relations, neglect our institutions and insult our society, wrote Zarabishvili. She regretted the lack of confidence between the two countries, but noted that she wished to be mistaken and hoped that the interests of both countries would prove more valuable than narrow political ambitions and calculations.
