Turkmenistan to create positions for former heads of state

Former Presidents of Turkmenistan will, if they wish, be members of the National Council of the Upper Chamber of the Bicameral Parliament, which is established in the country, for life. This is reported by Fergan on February 24 with reference to the relevant provisions in the draft amendments to the Constitution. According to the draft amendments to the Constitution, each of the former leaders of Turkmenistan will remain a member of the National Council (Hulk Maslakhata) unless he renounces this right.
