A rally dedicated to the anniversary of the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan took place on 15 February in Tskhinvali. This is reported by the agency Res. According to journalists, the event was attended by Prime Minister of the Republic Eric Puhayev and Ambassador of Russia to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov. Every year on February 15, since 1989, when the last Soviet soldier left the territory of Afghanistan, we pay tribute to those children who performed their international duty, honor and praise to heroes who showed bravery and courage in the war, said the head of the South Ossetian government. A total of 200 people were sent from South Ossetia to Afghanistan, seven of whom died there. Recall, the USSR participated in the armed conflict in Afghanistan from December 1979 until February 1989. During all this time 620,000 Soviet soldiers were sent to the Afghan state, of whom 15,000 were killed.
